MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR JENNA LEE
What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
Jenna Lee, I write in the following genre’s Paranormal, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sci Fi, YA, Women’s fiction and Non Fiction.
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
My first book and series The Silvia Saga is based on Crystals and their powers. I am a lover of crystals and this story idea came to me after thinking about them. I told my bestie then got to work with world building.
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I’m currently writing YA, Coming of age books that are based around a certain issue. I’m really enjoying writing in this genre because it helps with healing from my own teenage years. I want to shed light on these issues that teenagers face and how they can get through it.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
Personal experiences as well as what I’ve seen and heard throughout my life.
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I work full time and write in the mornings before work. I’m a morning person and find this time is the most productive for me. I set an hour in the morning before work and a hour after work. I set myself a goal for how many chapters I’d like to write but I’m pretty open to it. I set weekly goals then break it down into daily ones.
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
Daring Journey Self Help Book for Teens.
How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
Some of the names in my books have special meanings other’s is totally random.
Where do your ideas come from?
I’ve got a great imagination, I like watching and analyzing the people around me and use my experiences into my stories.
Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?
I have just finished writing my first non-fiction self help book. Something that I’ve had planned for many years but never had the courage to do it. I loved the whole process and it was very therapeutic. I can’t wait to share it and help as many people as I can.
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
Publishing my first book, putting it out into the world and continuing to write.
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Don’t hold back, do what you are drawn to do. Write your story and publish it, be proud of yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, we are all on own journey. You can do this.
Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?
I have many book ideas written down ready to be written. When I finish a book I’ll look through my list and pick whichever one is talking to me. Which characters are screaming to be written.
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
They all hold a special place in my heart, I can’t pick a favourite.
