A High School “American Psycho”

SOME TRUTHS ARE BETTER KEPT SECRET.
SOME SECRETS ARE BETTER OFF DEAD.

Along the banks of the Bogue Falaya River, sits the abandoned St. Francis Seminary. Beneath a canopy of oaks, blocked from prying eyes, the teens of St. Benedict High gather here on Fridays. The rest of the week belongs to school and family—but weekends belong to the river.

And the river belongs to Beau Devereaux.

The only child of a powerful family, Beau can do no wrong. Handsome. Charming. Intelligent. The star quarterback of the football team. The “prince” of St. Benedict is the ultimate catch.

He is also a psychopath.

A dirty family secret buried for years, Beau’s evil grows unchecked. In the shadows of the ruined St. Francis Abbey, he commits unspeakable acts on his victims and ensures their silence with threats and intimidation. Senior year, Beau sets his sights on his girlfriend’s headstrong twin sister, Leslie, who hates him. Everything he wants but cannot have, she will be his ultimate prize.

As the victim toll mounts, it becomes crystal clear that someone has to stop Beau Devereaux.

And that someone will pay with their life.

WARNING: Readers of Death by the River will encounter situations of violence and sexual abuse which could be upsetting to the reader.

This was the first book that I have read by Alexandrea Weis and she did not disappoint.
The one word that comes to mind while I am writing this book is WOW!!!!!!
Trying to put in words what I want to say in this review is very hard considering I had so many emotions in this book.

Her writing was amazing. She digs deep in all aspects of her writing. At the beginning of the book I actually felt as if I was there. I could smell the air and see the colors around the town of Bogue Falaya River and as fast as I could feel the beauty and light I could feel the SCARY and DARK.

Leslie and Dawn are twins that were once close. Leslie is the twin that has nothing to do with being with the “in-crowd”. Dawn is the head cheerleader, popular, and loved by others.
Dawn has a boyfriend named Beau Devereaux. He is MR. POPULAR. His family owns everything in the town. Beau is handsome and is in LIKE with Dawn but has his eyes on Leslie.
He has had his eye on Leslie and has told her he wanted her at “THE RIVER” The River is a hang out place where all the football players, cheerleaders, and popular kids go to. Beau told Leslie he wanted her in a very strong way and she told him she didn’t want anything to do with him. Let down by her he turns to her sister. What other way to get close to Leslie but by Dawn.
Beau’s crush turns into love, passion, and violent obsession and the only ones to see this is Leslie and her boyfriend Derek.

DEATH BY THE RIVER was a big shock. I didn’t read any description or synopsis since I wanted to go in reading with an open mind. I really enjoyed this book and Beau’s self-destruction and his full on mad man.
*Warning- Please be warned that there is a violent scene that describes a brutal rape.

This book should really be turned into a movie! It would be great to see this on a giant screen!!
