What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

Karen DuBose I write Dark Fantasy Romance

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

Black Ruins Forest came to me one night when I was somewhat watching T.V. There isn’t a lot of stories that have a bunch of different shifters in them along with elves, fae and witches. I completely love dragon shifters. They are badass. Just saying lol. I’m also a helpless romantic, so I threw that in there to. Well the characters took over on that part.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I’ve always loved fantasy and paranormal romance. I couldn’t see myself writing anything else.

Black Ruins Forest

What kind of research did you do for this book?

Ah! The best part. I didn’t I made everything up. I have different words for phones, computers and even cars.

Can you tell me about your Series?

Dariya never knew she was a seer. Her parents kept that from her. She just thinks that she daydreams a lot. All she has ever wanted to was to see her shifter animal when she turns 19. Yes, they do not come into their shifter animal until they turn 19. There are 4 different kinds of shifters. Dragons of course lol. Bears, lion and owls as well.

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

Yes book 3 that I am currently writing. I can’t give anything away on that one yet.

Black Ruins Blood FRONT

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?

It just popped into my head one night watching T.V.

Was it always meant to become a series?

Yes their story was intended to be 3 books but now we will see.

What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?

I work weird hours. I’m usually up at 3:30 am to go to work. I try writing a few hours a day before I go to bed. I write wherever I get comfortable.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?

I’m rereleasing Black Ruins Forest and Blood on August 12th. It is a new and lengthen 2018 version.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

Yes they are important to me. If they don’t click I can’t use them. I have to have a feel for them. I can’t just say ok let’s name you this and you this. Ok, I did do some research for my books. I researched names.

Where do your ideas come from?

Sometimes my dreams, or driving, and even when I’m just staring out the window lol.

Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?

I’ve been asked to so Steampunk. I have been thinking about it and I may do it.

Untainted Magic

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

When my characters want to talk all at once or when they stop talking all together.

What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?

Yes, I do have a book trailer for them. I will be sharing that soon to the public.

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

When I write The End at the end of the book and letting the world read what I have written.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

You get to share your world with the world and meeting your fans in person.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully a well-known author.

Have you always liked to write?

No, I hated writing in school. But I didn’t know it could ever be this good.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

You will always have critics ignore them and write your heart out. The ones who see you heart on those pages will be your true fans.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

A lawyer.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?

I do read my reviews.  I only respond to the good. If there are bad ones I tend to let it slid off me. I can’t make everyone happy.

What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?

Promoting. I have no clue what I am doing. Oh, and editing lol.

What are you working on now?

Book 3 in the Elder series. It don’t have a title yet.

Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?

I can say things are going to get messy even more than it already is.

Why did you choose to write in your genre?

If you write in more than one, how do you balance them? I have tried my hand in contemporary romance and I don’t like it as much as I do dark fantasy. I chose it because that is where my heart is.

Where did your love of books come from?

Ok no making fun of me. I hate reading until someone made me read Twilight. I didn’t know that world even existed. I’ve been reading paranormal and fantasy romance ever since. Btw I was 28 lol.

Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?

I do have a few favorite authors. The belated Ednah Walters. She through me into this world had first. I didn’t even know about indie authors until her. S.J West is another favorite author. Her books hold you into her world and leaves you begging for more. As far as my favorite book well that’s easy anything from Ednah Walters. If you haven’t read her book. I would consider it.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?

Kira is my favorite. She is sassy and as protective as one can get.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It depends on the scene I’m writing.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

My Silhouette machine. I love making swag and other things for my fans.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I go with my heart. If they love it great, but if they hate it there is nothing I can do about that. I know a lot of readers love it when you write with all you have.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Stephany Wallace has been amazing. She helped me get untainted Magic up and going. I know I probably got on her nerves lol. Michelle Edrington-Areaux has reedited both Black Ruins Forest and Blood. She is a sweet heart and I thank her for doing everything so quick. CK Green has fixed my covers for both book and she made Untainted Magic’s cover.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Lmao, well let’s see. Chaos runs my life. lol

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?

What does your family think of you being a writer?
