MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR LINDSAY BECS

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
Heyyy! I’m Lindsay Becs and I write contemporary/new adult romance.
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
At the moment, I have five books released. I’m most known for my book Always and the series that is releasing this year from it. Right now, the first two books of my Always Series are out (Always and Always There). Always is an age-gap taboo book, but has a different twist to it. My books tend to give you all the feels and give you a good chuckle in the midst of them.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I loved to write when I was younger but never did it for more than myself. Then, I started reading a bunch and became obsessed! Jay McLean is one of my favorite authors and she wrote up a post about how she got started and I thought, I can do that too. So, I started to write not thinking it would turn into a book, but here we are!
What kind of research did you do for this book?
A lot of research for Always!! A. Lot. Same with MOON. ❤
Can you tell me about your Series?
Always Series is a family series. Each book is about a different couple and can be read as a standalone. However, you’ll get spoilers (from Always especially) if you read them out of order. The series is ongoing in time which means you get to grow with this crazy fun family. Each book is a different sub-genre as well.
Do you have a favorite book out of this series?
I love them all, but I’m super excited for the next book, Promise Me Always (Always Series: Book Three) to release in May.

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?
I honestly don’t know. LoL! I continue to read other books to keep my mind thinking. Netflix and life help too.
Was it always meant to become a series?
No. LoL! I wrote Always as a standalone and at the time didn’t even think about it becoming a series. I started to write a different book, almost had it finished but wasn’t happy. It spun the idea for the series and I’ve taken things from that book adapted them into the various books.
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I try to have at least 3-4 days a week set aside for writing. Once my kids leave for school, I sit at my desk to catch up on Facebook and emails, and then set to writing. I don’t have a set writing goal each day, but attempt to finish 1-2 chapters when I write. Sometimes I get less written and sometimes I get more. It just depends on my brain that day.
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
I do! It’s a surprise though. Shhhh….
How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
Some, yes. Other’s no. In MOON each name has a significant meaning to the story. In the Always Series I think only one name has a true meaning.

Where do your ideas come from?
My wacky brain.
Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?
Sports Romance
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
The beginning of a story. I’ll know what I want the story to be about, but just getting started is hard. I’ll stare at my open doc sometimes just trying to figure out how to begin.
What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?
I think they are awesome! I do not have any myself, I’m not creative in that way myself.
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
The fact that I wrote a book, let alone the five currently released and the other three sitting in my vault.

What’s the best thing about being an author?
I get to live vicariously through these incredible characters. I play make-believe for a living. My readers are also awesome and getting to know them in unreal. I love them all so much.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, my military hubs may be retiring and we’ll be empty nesting. Huge life changes! I hope to still be writing and enjoying life with my man.
Have you always liked to write?
I have. I wrote poetry and journaled when I was younger as an outlet.
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Just do it! Even if you’re the only one to read it. Do it and don’t hold back.
If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?
I’d love to be a pastry chef or chocolatier.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?
I read them at times, yes, but I don’t respond. I may ‘like’ them but that’s it. Bad reviews happen. It makes me sad when they say they DNF because that means that miss the whole story. I also know that not everyone will like my books, and that’s OK.
What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?
Blurbs! Ohmygosh… They are the bane of my existence.
Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?
My next release, Promise Me Always is going to be awesome. I tried my hand in sports romance a bit with this one. You’ll have to tell me how I did. 😉
Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?
I write what I like to read. I write what I feel while writing. Each book, like each character, is different because that’s how we are as people.
Where did your love of books come from?
No idea!
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
Teagan Hunter, Autumn Jones Lake, Shantel Tessier, Nicole Dykes are some of my favorites. Jay McLean is my #1. I love her so much as an author and person. She’s amazing. Her book Darkness Matters is my favorite book. Although, I love ALL of her books, that one was so powerful to me.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
Oh, that’s tough. Travis is probably my favorite man. He’s broody and sweet and feels so much. Tatum is probably my favorite girl. She is fierce and strong and my total spirit animal.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both! Emotions get to me and exhaust me when I write certain parts of books. I feel these characters when I write them. When I can’t write for a few days I miss it and feel energized when I get to get back to it. My readers help energize me and get me writing more as well.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
Age gaps probably.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I would say I’m more original. I write what I want and what I feel.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
We all support each other. We get excited when we have new releases and we like to tease too.
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
I’m fairly certain you can pick parts of my life out of each of my books. Smash them altogether and you have me. Always shoot for the MOON even if you have High & Lo’s
