What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

Hi! I’m Michelle Dare and I write romance of all kinds. I started with romantic suspense and have moved on to do erotic, contemporary, new adult, fantasy and my newest is young adult paranormal.

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

The next book I’m releasing is titled Wake’s Claim. It’s book one in my Paranormals of Avynwood series. This is Wake and Paige’s book. Both characters appeared in my Ariane Trilogy. I knew from Wake’s first introduction in the trilogy that he was a character with so much depth. And he was broken. My heart ached for him. Throughout his book, he experiences a lot but it all brings him to the one person he craves above all others—his mate.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I’ve always loved young adult romance books. It was one genre I wanted to try my hand at writing for a long time. When the idea for this trilogy came to me, I knew I had to give it a go.

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I was lucky and didn’t have to do a lot of research. While shifters, vampires, etc. have been told in stories over and over, I decided to put my unique spin on them. There was a lot of world building. I love the freedom that comes with writing paranormal.

Can you tell me about your Series?

Yes, I’d love to! The Paranormals of Avynwood series is a spin-off of my Ariane Trilogy. The main characters in these books are the supporting characters from the trilogy. Each book centers around a specific couple. The reader gets to see them each get their HEA. What I love about this series is that I get to dive deeper into each of these characters and tell their story. And the series won’t be about one certain type of paranormal. It will be shifters, vampires, fae, and mages. Also another great part of it is revisiting other characters and having them make cameos in the books. It’s a lot of fun to write.

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?

The Ariane Trilogy came to me in a dream. I woke up that morning and jotted down the idea and sat on it for months until it was time to write it. But that dream evolved so much. I would never have expected it to turn into more than those three books. And yet here I am writing a spin-off series about the characters I love.

Was it always meant to become a series?

Yes. I couldn’t write a standalone for these. There are way too many stories to tell.

What’s a typical working day like for you?

When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal? I’m up at 6 AM to get my kids ready and on the bus for school. I write for three hours a day and can write fast, around 2,000-2,500 words an hour. I set my daily goal at 6,000 words. In two weeks I can write a full-length novel. When I’m not writing, I’m answering email, messages, etc. and doing chores around the house. I get much more done when the kids are at school lol.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?

I do. Ford’s Fate is the next book in the series. I’m more than halfway done writing it. It centers around my very cocky, yet very lovable vampire, Ford Verascue.

Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?

Yes, I’d love to write sci-fi romance. I have an idea for one that I dreamt. One day I’m going to write it.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

I love writing. What’s hard for me is the editing process and all the read-throughs. It’s a lot of work but very necessary.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

The freedom of it and the ability to do it from anywhere. I love writing whatever story I want, however I want. And I can do it from my office, my couch, or my backyard. I get to do it all while being here for my family. There’s a lot of flexibility in it.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Write from your heart. When you pour yourself into your books, it shows. Be proud of your work. Also, write what you love. For me, writing is so much easier and flows better when I’m writing a story I love. I need to feel my characters emotions, understand their motives so I can portray it all into words. When you can connect with your characters like that, it will come through in your writing and your readers will be able to connect with them as well.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?

That’s like picking a favorite child lol. I don’t think I could pick one. I have so many. I love them all.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Energizes me. I love the feeling of knowing I got my word count in for the day. It’s amazing and makes me want to write more.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Original. I write the story how I see it and hope readers love it.
