MY INTERVIEW WITH PEPPER WINTERS

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
Pepper Winters and I’d say Dark Romance, New Adult, and Angsty Tear-Jerkers
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
I have so many now (over 20) which is crazy! The stories just pop into my head and then annoy me until I write them!

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I’ve always been a lover of stories that are emotionally charged and full of angst. I also love Dark Romance as you can really get into the depth of a character and what they’d do in the worst situations.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
I do all sorts of research, depending on the content, I’ll ask professionals, Google, and find out from everyday people.
Can you tell me about your Series?
I have a fair few. My first was the MONSTERS IN THE DARK trilogy that follows Tess (a girl who is sold) and Q (her new master) It’s kinky and full of twists. My latest is THE RIBBON DUET which is very different to that and follows a boy (Ren) who runs away from an abusive farmer when he’s ten, taking something of theirs in the process. It’s a Coming of Age duet that deals with age gaps and taboo.

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?
I love all my work but I’d have to say I really like Tears of Tess and The Boy and His Ribbon
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I used to work about 12 hours a day. Lately, I’ve dropped it down to about 4 hours a day so I have time to do Hot Yoga and ride my horses (and do errands, chores, and wifely duties)
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
Yes, THE BODY PAINTER. I’m VERY excited about it!

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
I love names! I use names I know in real life or overhear in the stores etc. I keep a collection ready for the next book.
What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?
I love them. I think it’s a great snippet into what the book will deliver.
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
Getting a much better work and life balance! I used to be a workaholic but a lot calmer these days (it wasn’t easy though!)
What’s the best thing about being an author?
Being able to do something you love for a job! Best thing ever.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Writing, riding—basically everything I’m doing now.

Have you always liked to write?
Yes, loved it right from day one.
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Never give up! It was my fifth book that did well, not my first so you never know which one will get noticed.
If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?
Probably work in some capacity with animals.
Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?
No, I don’t. I let the reviews be for the readers. They’re not for me but for other people contemplating reading my work!

Where did your love of books come from?
I’ve always been an avid bookworm from before I could remember!
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
Yes, loads! Nalini Singh, Jean M Auel, Diana Gabaldon just to name a few…
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
Oh, I can’t answer that question. It’s too hard to pick haha.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both. Depends on the scene and the book!

What is your writing Kryptonite?
If I’m hungry I can’t write.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I write what I want to write and what inspires me…
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
I’m lucky enough to know a lot of great writers! They’re all amazing and so talented!
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
Oh good question. But I don’t have an answer lol
