What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

H.M. Gooden is my pen name, and my books would be considered paranormal- ya, then na, some with romance and some without.

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

My first book was Dream of Darkness. It actually was born from a recurring dream I’ve had since high school and just grew from there.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I’ve always loved the idea that magic is part of reality, and love books in a variety of genres but most do include magic somewhere

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I researched fairy tales, history, magic and used my teenager for reality checks lol

Can you tell me about your Series?

The Rise of the Light series is a coming of age, magic is real and now paranormal adventure. My girls develop into powerful women who can stand alone but know that real power is having friends you can count on, and people that you love give you the power to face anything.

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

That’s like picking my favorite child- totally depends on the day!

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?

From my life, from mythology, history, my little ponies, everywhere 🙂

Was it always meant to become a series?

Intially, I thought I was writing one, I’ve now finished the final book in the original series and it turns out it was an 8 book series.

What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?

I work a day job, look after 3 kids 4-8, and write between work and home in the car via dictation, editing is in the wee hours between 4-6, sometimes on a good evening if people let me!

The Raven and The Witch Hunter Omnibus

I do! It is called Soul Goblet, and its part of a series I’m co-writing called The Legends of the Fallen

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

No special meaning- they just come to me.

Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?

I write what calls to me!

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Finding the time!
