MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR SANDRA KAYE

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
I write as Sandra Kaye and I write paranormal fantasy. I have a children book and now I’m getting ready to release in November

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
Well my grandfather was a Cherokee Indian and I love the all things magic so I combined the two to create this story
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I enjoy reading anything fantasy but sometimes I want to make it better so now I’m trying.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
A great deal into Cherokee legend and many hours on magical creatures just so I could write one paragraph

Can you tell me about your Series?
This series will follow the two through multiple books as they learn what and who they are.
Do you have a favorite book out of this series?
.not yet
Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?
Again the Cherokee legends as well as stories my grandmother told.
What kind of research did you do for this book?

Was it always meant to become a series?
No not at first but at 300 pages I decided I needed more books.lol
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I’m a nurse and work 12 hour days so at night most days if I’m not too tired.
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
The first book in the series is Origins, a Ravenwood novel. Due out the middle of November this year.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
Not really. It’s more who they are modeled after
Where do your ideas come from?
I have a crazy imagination
Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?
Reverse harem
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Point of view. I tend to think in the now its hard to write it as past tense
What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?
Love that people can do that. Currently no but maybe later
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
Raising my children is first but actually completing a book
What’s the best thing about being an author?
Living in the world I built
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully retired and writing full time
Have you always liked to write?
Yes even in college I enjoyed doing papers. I’m a big book nerd
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Put it down beginning to end then see what you have. You might be amazed.
If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?
I’d stick to being a nurse I love helping people. Which does show in my characters
Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?
I do read them. Some I respond to if they offer advice or criticism
What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?
Editing
What are you working on now?
Book two of the Ravenwood series
Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?
My life has been nothing but darkness, a void except for when he comes. Those times are the worst. I’m beginning to lose hope. I don’t know how much longer I can hang on.
Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?
I see too much bad in everyday life.
Where did your love of books come from?
My dad was an avid reader I’m the only one to follow that. He was never without a book.
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
Anything by Jaymin Eve
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
So far Seslie is so like how i’d be.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Energize like crazy
What is your writing Kryptonite?
People coming to talk constantly
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I want to be original
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Jaymin Eve and Heather Renee have been so sweet and helpful and help if I’m stuck.
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
A day of craziness
