MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR APRIL L. WOOD🌻

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
My name is April L. Wood and I write supernatural, young-adult mystery romance.
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
I’ve always been fond of witches, and books about witches, and I’m a voracious romance reader. I put my two loves together and voila, Season of the Witch the book series!
Winter’s Curse, Season of the Witch 1, is about a teen ice witch who is chased from her homeland, the terrestrial north pole. She flees to the USA with her mother and finds more trouble awaiting her when her High Priestess Grandmother makes an unwise bet in a broom flying contest. This drives her closer to new friends, including Turmeric Wormwood, despite the Segregation Curse of Old cast to keep clans apart.

Spring in Summerland, Season of the Witch 2, is about a teen air witch who visits family to escape her smothering parents, only to be stifled by the Spirit Witches that haunt the old Victorian funeral parlor her grandparents call home… Home, sweet funeral home. At an Ostara celebration, she meets Oak Wormwood, but he’s so shy she isn’t sure if he’s playing hard-to-get, or just isn’t interested.

What kind of research did you do for this book?
I had to do a lot of research on Wicca, alchemy, and even mortuary and crematorium practices.
Can you tell me about your Series?
Season of the Witch is about four elemental witches who escape persecution from witch-hunters but cannot avoid other otherworldly problems and their own personal teenagedramas. Each installment is a stand alone novel set in the same world, featuring teen witches named Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. It’s pagan based with Wiccan themes and oh so fun!
Was it always meant to become a series?
Yes.
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
My dining room is currently my office space. I write for several hours a day and try to get out 2K daily, but sometimes that isn’t possible. On those days, I edit.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
I have several in the works but Amid Summer’s Nightmare, Season of the Witch 3, will be my next release. I’m looking at a late Summer release with Prince and Pauper Press.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
Extremely important! I’m glad you asked. My character names are related to herbs, plants, seasons, and nature. Witch Clan names include: Rose-Thorne, Devil-Claw, Widow-Tears, and Wormwood.

What’s the best thing about being an author?
Receiving the first proof copy of your book and holding it in your hands is amazing. It makes everything worth it. Also, having a reader tell you that they enjoyed your story makes you feel like a million bucks. It’s such a boost.
Have you always liked to write?
Yes. As a kid I would make books out of construction paper, yarn, and contact paper. They were penned with crayon. It’s unfortunate I don’t still have them because they were adorable.
