MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR TISH THAWER🦋

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
Tish Thawer, New Adult Paranormal Romance.
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I’ve always been drawn to the myth and magic and grew up watching superhero cartoons, so it was a natural fit.
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I am at the computer by 6am and then take a small break to get the kid off to school around 8:30. Then, I’m back at it until I pick him up at 3:30. School work, dinner, then finalize a few emails, then TV and bed by 9 or 10. Then, repeat. 🙂 And no. I don’t set daily writing goals, as I always do better when things simply go with the flow. (Unless I’m under a deadline crunch, of course.)
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
I’m currently working on a short-story for the Havenwood Falls collective world. The working title is Lost in Time, and it ties into my Witches of BlackBrook series.

Where do your ideas come from?
I generally get blindsided with ideas from a single word I see, or something I hear in a conversation, but there are times when an idea forms after I wake up from a vivid dream, or in some cases a certain picture.
Is there a genre that you’ve been wanting to experiment with?
I have recently dove into the Dystopian/Sci-fi genre, which I love. TS901:Anomaly is book one in the TS901 Chronicles that I co-authored with the amazing Stacey Rourke. And I have a separate dystopian stand-alone that is being shopped to New York and Hollywood by my agent.

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
By far it would have to be when The Witches of BlackBrook hit #1 in Historical Fiction and climbed into the Top 100 Paid list on Amazon, (#79 actually). This placed it above Outlander for like five minutes. (Yes, it was the best five minutes of my life!) LOL

What’s the best thing about being an author?
Immersing myself in the fantasy of a story I created, then and being able to share that world with others.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Still writing. 🙂
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Don’t quit, and do your research. There are right and wrong ways to do everything in this industry, so be sure to know what you’re doing before diving in. Ask for help from established peers, and be sure to budget for high-quality help, (cover designers, editors, etc.)
Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?
Yes and no. If I’m looking at Amazon for something else, then I may glance at it if I see the review numbers have went up, but no, I NEVER respond. The bad reviews are bound to happen, as no one reads the same book. And since I know that I can always do better and will continue to grow as a writer, it doesn’t bother me when someone doesn’t like my style or characters, maybe someday I’ll write something they will like. Then again, maybe not, but that’s okay.

What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?
Marketing. Period. Exclamation point! LOL. I’m not very good at the whole “Look at me! Buy my stuff,” thing, so I find developing new marketing strategies very important, but it’s also very time consuming, which pulls me away from my writing.
Where did your love of books come from?
My mother. She always had her nose in a book when I was younger. Too bad it took me into my 30’s to understand why. (I was a late bloomer/reader.)
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
Oh my, sooo so many, but a couple of my top picks are JK Rowling and Gena Showalter.
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
Dang, that’s hard, but if I have to pick, I’ll say Raven, from The Women of Purgatory series. She’s the first female Grim Reaper in history, and I love her bad-assness and quirky personality.
