MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR BREE PIERCEš

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
I am Bree Pierce and I write a little bit of everything. I love writing about vampires the most, I think, but I also have fantasy books, mafia romances, and some horror mixed in.
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
The very first novella I published evolved from an idea I had while talking to another author. She had posted about some strange balloons in her neighborās yard and then the ideas started flying. I came up with the idea that what if it were to lure children to an underground vampire lair that was situated underneath the house where children were kept as their own and as meals until they were 16 where they were given the choice to become one of them. And a book was born. In fact, there are 3 in the series with one mashup novelette as well.
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
Paranormal romance was not always my favorite. In fact, I knew almost nothing about it until Twilight came about. The series brought me interest in this world of vampires and shifters and more. So I started reading more in the genre and eventually decided I wanted to write my own. After that I branched out to other genres as well.

What kind of research did you do for this book?
General information about vampires. The rest was pure imagination.
Can you tell me about your Series?
I have a few series going on at this point, but The Twisted Destinies Series centers mainly on one vampire family that changes the entire world. Their fates are undoubtedly all twisted up. The Cain, The Immortal Series is about the immortal Cain, the one from the Bible that killed his brother. However, he never died and has lived for thousands of years. His past haunts him still and he meets a man-made vampire named Christine who changes his life. This series crosses over into The Twisted Destinies Series to an extent and you will see some characters in this that you saw in the other series. I have more offshoots planned for these two. My other ongoing series is the Love & Corruption series. This one is unfinished as of yet but you can easily read the first two books without feeling as though there is too much missing. This series focuses on the Rhodes family who are involved in organized crime. They are bad guys with morals and loyalty to the family no matter what.
Do you have a favorite book out of this series?
I donāt think I could pick a favorite book of mine. They are all near and dear to my heart. Each one is a piece of me.
Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?
Many of my books come from dreams or from conversations with my husband. We discuss things and turn over ideas and then it sparks something. The dreams can be intense though.

What kind of research did you do for this book?
Each book requires not only a different level of research but different types. For vampires, you kind of have to know what the norm is and just branch out from there if you donāt want traditional stereotypes. Like my novelette, House of Wax. I had to do a little research on wax museums so I had an idea about how to go about writing the story. For Love & Corruption, it was to know a bit about how organized crime worked. And I had to do a little research on explosives. Iām sure that might have put me on a watch list or two.
Was it always meant to become a series?
The Cain, The Immortal Series was always going to be a series. However, the rest were not so much. I just kind of built off of them.
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I did have a writing goal until I had my 4th child. He is 7 weeks old so right now the only schedule I have is his. Itās more of a do what you can, when you can. So naps are an important time of writing and getting housework done.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, whatās the name of your upcoming book?
I do! I am currently working on a follow-up of Dueling Kings but I have not announced the title, cover, or blurb yet. I am still working on writing it so it will e a bit before that information is released.
How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
Yes and no. Sometimes I am just looking for names that fit my characters. Sometimes they mean a little more.
Where do your ideas come from?
Dreams, conversations, etc. Sometimes the smallest thing will spark an idea.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Ending a series or book. Saying goodbye to your characters can be hard since you have invested so much time in them.
What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?
I currently have two. I love book trailers! However, I wish I knew how to make them!
This is the trailer for the Cain, The Immortal Series

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
Publishing a book is an accomplishment! But outside of my occupation, my children are my greatest accomplishment. Iām very proud of them all.
Whatās the best thing about being an author?
The people you meet. No matter how satisfying it is to do something you love, the people around you are what make it really special.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully more well known than I am today. I want my kids to be able to say that their mom is an author with pride when they do. And I want to show them that itās ok to chase their own dreams and that they should pursue them.
Have you always liked to write?
Absolutely. I have written since I was a child. Iāve always loved it!
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Keep on keeping on. No matter how hard the road is ahead, keep going. It takes perseverance in this world.
If you didnāt like writing books, or werenāt any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?
Photography. It is something else that I love to do. I always wanted to have a photo of mine featured in National Geographic.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?
I do read them but I do not comment on them. Their opinion is their opinion. However, I respect a well thought-out review that is constructive even if it is a bad review. I donāt feel like itās necessary for anyone to bash someone else, no matter what the problem is. Authors work very hard on their products and I respect that.
What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?
Editing. Itās such a hassle and you get tired of looking at your own work over and over again.
What are you working on now?
Several things, really, but the follow-up to Dueling Kings is at the forefront for the moment.

Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?
~No matter how many times he had smelled it now, the memory of the tang of blood was unmistakable and unforgettable. The moment he opened the front door, the smell overtook his senses, bringing with it a wave of nausea and knowledge that he was about to see something that would haunt his dreams for months to come.~
Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?
I find it fascinating to write about beings that do not conform to the natural laws of life and death. That is why I love PNR so much. But I also love to write other genres. Itās fun and it helps fuel my creativity.
Where did your love of books come from?
Iām not sure. I have always loved to read. My mother does too. Perhaps I got it from her.
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
My favorite classical authors have to be Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Alexander Dumas. Modern day would be Colleen Hoover, Erica Stevens, Diana Gabaldon, RS McCoy, and others. Itās a mixture of indies and traditionally published authors.

Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?
I am on most big platforms like Amazon, Goodreads, Smashwords,Kobo, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, and more.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
It exhausts my brain when I have written quite a bit, but energizes my body, which is good since I have other things to do besides write all day lol.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
Blurbs. I think blurbs are an authorās worst nightmare. Most I have spoken to tend to agree. They are hard to write because it needs to be short and catchy. You only have a few sentences to capture the attention of readers.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I like to go my own way and do my own thing when it comes to my books. I write what is speaking to me. If I didnāt, I donāt know that I could finish writing it. You just canāt force it.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Erica Stevens, Cora Murray, Christina Escue, Kathy DInisi, Whitney Cannavina, Elaine Barris, and many many more. They are all wonderful when you need help with something and are really great to talk to.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
Love and Chaos. My life seems filled with chaos much of the time, but there is also so much love in it from my family. Another title would be more along the lines of Controlled Chaos lol.
