MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR IRIS SWEETWATER 🦋

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

Iris Sweetwater; Paranormal Romance, Mature YA Fantasy, and Romance.

Can you tell me about your Series?

The Brothers of Fang series has been sitting as an idea in my journal for a few years. It is a series that follows three werewolf brothers (who are super sexy by the way) dealing with the loss of their father who was the alpha. One of them inherits the entire pack as well as a shaky treaty with the witch coven who has territory right next to them. It turns into a story of family issues, betrayal, and forbidden love.

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

Yes, I do, and it’s actually the last one that is yet to be published. The story in it is so big, it could keep going if I wanted it to. One day, it might, but this will be the conclusion of the story surrounding the current generation of wolves and witches.

What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?

I love them for certain books, especially fantasy and things like that. I don’t think they always work for stand alone romances, though.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I hope to be doing some combination of being an author, like actually making a living off being one, able to provide greatly for my family, and save for college for my daughter, and teaching and making curriculum in a way that truly makes a difference. I hope to be in a place where I can afford to adopt a sibling for her and own a nice home. Maybe one of my books will be made into a move!?

Have you always liked to write?

Yes. I started reading at about 2.5 and was able to begin writing at 4. I started with poems and short stories and went from there.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

I would be a teacher.

Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?

I read them, but I usually do not respond. I don’t want to seem overly liking of those who leave good reviews or lose my temper with those who I disagree with. So, I deal with the bad by reading them, seeing what value I can get out of them (like constructive criticism) and then forget about them.

What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?

I love creating new worlds and characters, but I hate that I have to struggle to get my book seen and read.

What are you working on now?

The last in the Brothers of Fang series and the first in a fantasy series with angels, demons, and super powers!

If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?

I write PNR, YA Fantasy, and romance. I chose PNR and YA Fantasy because I have been both reading and writing those since I was a child. They are my favorite, and they transport you somewhere else entirely. Romance is something I have picked up because I have been ghostwriting it for a living since 2013. As far as balance, romance is more for something to read in between my other books. Something with a HEA and a nice couple that people love to just relax to while they are waiting for what epic adventure is coming next.

Where did your love of books come from?

Well, I honestly hated reading of so long until I got swept up in the Harry Potter fandom. Once that was over, I began looking for other YA series that could sweep me away and was happy to find them.

Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?

JK Rowling, Holly Black, Lauren Kate, Addison Moor, Alyson Noel….I bet you see a theme already lol

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?

Well, that’s hard because I would say I have a personal favorite in each book or series I write. For anything published I actually love Isaiah. He was the first completely fleshed out character in my head for the series.

Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?

I have a website, an Amazon page, and a reader’s group on Facebook. My website and newsletter are really informative of my work, but the reader’s group gets sneak peeks and gets to interact with me directly.
(Links below)

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Writing my own work energizes me. It’s writing for others that often exhausts.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

A cheesy, formulaic, boring story.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I think I have a good middle ground. I follow a few rules and listen to criticism, but otherwise, my story is going to go the way I see it in my head and feel it in my heart.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer? I am friends with a lot of other Indie authors. Seeing them at various levels of success really helps encourage me to keep going, and it also helps to have someone to go to about cover ideas and things like that.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

I am actually planning on doing one at some point-a memoir named Muah.

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview?

How would you answer that question? I always wish people would want to know more about my writing and English background. There us this assumption that Indie authors are not bestsellers because they were bored and started taking writing classes one day or something. I am a published poet, traditionally, and I have been writing since the age of 4. I am an English and public speaking educator and have been a professional writer in many capacities over the years that doesn’t involve being a self-published author.

Bio: Iris Sweetwater grew up writing poems and thinking up crazy stories while she was bored at school. Everyone was certain she would become an author one day, especially when at 13, she saw her first poem being published in an anthology. Since then, life has given her many twists and turns, seeing her as a sales associate, an SEO content manager, a teacher, a curriculum specialist, a mother, and a ghostwriter. All of these things have led her to finally being in the time of her life where she knows she should be sharing her own stories and not just someone else’s. She hopes to make a career out of writing paranormal romance, young adult fantasy, and contemporary romance while still pursuing ways to help children engage in the learning process.
