MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR DECADENT KANE🌛

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

Decadent Kane and I write Paranormal Romance

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

Untamed (Dark Khimairans ) is originally written as part of the Zodiac Shifters…where shifters can find their true love through the stars.

During my research on the zodiac signs and mythology, one of the requests by those working within the Zodiac Shifter series (which is a multi-author series of standalone books) suggest finding something new to do with the shifter book written.
So, I got an idea for Chimera…and originally it was going to be like 3 brothers out to face one evil, but the more I thought on it, the more I wanted ample room to grow the series.
After several discussions with other writers I admire I came up with my own lore for Chimera and named my series the Dark Khimairans…which are shifters who come from the Chimera originally…but are given humanity and in order to keep their humanity must find a mate to balance them. I used the idea of twisting the myth as most people know it and making the good guy…the bad guy in my books.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I’ve always loved reading paranormal romance, and then one day I was dared to write one and poof here I am several books later.

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I mostly focused on the main Chimera myth and then worked with the zodiac sign of Leo…creating a character that acts as a Leo might within the realms of a shifting creature from the stars.

Can you tell me about your Series?

I’ll give you the actual Lore which will be in every book in the series…and you and others can go from there…but be assured it will all be romance firmly in the pnr genre.
Khimairan (chimera) Lore

Doomed from the beginning, Khimaira was born from two powerful divine celestial beings— Typhon who’s many heads touched the stars and Echidna, mother of all monsters.
Humans came to believe Bellerophon had slain Khimaira using the winged horse Pegasos as flight and a spear to claim the deadly blow.

But this is the myth of humans, as those who win wars tend to write history in their favor.

The truth, Typhon and Echidna used their divine powers to move their beloved Khimaira with heads of dragon, lion, and goat to the stars so death would not claim her. They left the shell of her body and took her soul and mind, forever to be graced among the stars.
Khimaira grew lonely and heart sick, aching for more than eternity existing in a darkened nether world without contact. She called to Typhon and Echidna’s celestial spirits, requesting a way to fill her heart, to be loved.
They granted her request knowing Bellerophon would still be waiting, as he too was granted immortality by gods of his choosing for slaying Khimaira. To keep their child’s soul safe, they split her animals a part and scattered them on earth allowing her to be both male and female, human and creature of any kind.
Bellerophon could feel the very presence of his enemy upon the land and vowed to never give her peace, to never stop looking until he owned all of her immortal soul. Primal blades were fashioned and the great gods, those more powerful than Echidna and Typhon gave two of the blades to the Khimairan race born of the stars and one to Bellerophon.
But a balance must always be struck within the universe as life cannot go without death so to Khimaira could not return without conditions.
One condition of existence for Khimairans had to be met …
Though they were given humanity, to learn to love, to shapeshift from beast into human…they must find their mate or lose their humanity forever…reverting back to their primal animal form destined to kill others as the great monster humans believed Khimaira to be.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

Sometimes there are special meanings for names in my books, but mostly I run with themes for names- in my Trouble with Elves series I work with names that tend to sound more nature like and I always try to find strong male names for my leading men.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

The writing and the readers… I can’t choose between the two because I adore both.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Still writing, hopefully more books.

Have you always liked to write?

Always.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Force yourself to write the first draft- and then look at it for what it is- draft 1. Then go edit it to layer in all the great stuff like themes, backstories, setting. The first draft is not meant to be great…you make it great through revision of the first draft.
Every author- big or small starts out with a first draft.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

Honestly, I don’t know. LOL
My passion has always been for English, maybe I’d be a teacher?

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?

I don’t respond to reviews. I occasionally read reviews, but mainly to make sure my ARC readers are actually posting reviews, otherwise I let reviews be because they are the readers opinion. Good or bad, everyone has their own thoughts on it.

What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?

Sometimes other people dragging other people down- but I think that kind of stuff is found at every job.

Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

A little of both sometimes.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

Migraines.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Both, truth is I don’t think about originality or readers when I write my first draft- I think of what the characters want to say and their story- when I revise then I think of readers and how to pull them in to the story through tension and emotions.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Oh my I have a ton of author friends and all of them inspire me in some way.
Mckayla Schutt is a fellow PNR author who writes shifters too and her ability to put out book after book despite being a mom of two and a very hectic life schedule inspires me to try harder.
Torie James- she writes a Camelot series…where fangs are involved (seriously check her out) she inspires me to try and lift other up more because no matter what she is always got some authors back- always sharing releases, always working to help someone else.
Brantwijn Serrah is great at Deep point of view- her books have so much emotion in them you have to take a moment to step back and refresh after you finish one and she’s helped me work on my deeper point of view in my writing.
There are so many authors I admire and who help me move forward I wouldn’t have enough time to name all of them or write out why because the truth is my world is filled with those who inspire and push me to better myself.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Now that is an interesting question…LOL There are so many aspects of my life… it would be hard to title it.
Off the top of my head:
The Devil’s in the details…and between the pages.

Where can your fans find you and follow?

I’m on Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, Amazon, Bookbub

Thank you for taking your time to do this interview ❤️
