MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR K. L. ROTH🌟

MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR K. L. ROTH🌟

What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

K. L Roth and I write Erotica; paranormal, historical, horror and fantasy.

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

Originally R. L Weeks was co-writing this series with me but she had to pull out of it. We came up with it together.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I love The Tudors, Reign, The White Queen, Victoria and Game of Thrones so I mashed my series up with all these shows. I love the 15th century and royalty.

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I didn’t know a lot of the names of the men’s clothing so I had to them up. A pagan friend of mine helped me with the rituals, potions and their way of life.

Can you tell me about your Series?

The Royals is an erotic historical fiction set in the 15th century English Court. I take you behind the scenes and divulge all the lies, betrayal, scandals and lust you never hear about.

James is about to get everything he’s ever wanted. He’s about to become the next of King of England. He’s engaged to the rich Lady Alice, and England has never been wealthier.
He’s about to get it all until everything shatters around him.
The palace is stalked by demons from his past, hiding in the shadows, waiting.
Deadly truths are etched onto the portraits of the late queen who was beheaded, taking a secret to her grave that would change everything.
As he takes on the role of being the most powerful man in England, he realizes that everyone is hiding secrets, the noblemen are pulling strings, and he can’t even keep his sister under control.
When he finds out the truth, how far will he go to hold onto his crown?

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

So far Royal Lies is the only book out in the series. I’m working on the second book Royal Betrayal.

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?

Mainly The Tudors. I’ve watched the series a zillion times it feels like.

Was it always meant to become a series?

From the start is was set to be a three book series but the way the story is playing out, it will definetly be four, maybe five.

What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?

I work as a Quality Coordinator at a plastic mold injection factory so I’m always busy. I run around the plant like a crazy woman. I try and write whenever and wherever I can; work, home, cell phone, or my son’s football practice. I don’t set a goal because I’m way too busy and I will fail miserably.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?

I’m working on Howl for Me, an erotic shifter Menage A Trois and Royal Betrayal book #2 of The Royals series. This winter I will be working on a stalker series that will have at least 4 books.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

Normally I try and use my reader’s names…lol. It’s my way of saying thank you for reading my books and supporting me.

Where do your ideas come from?

Like I said before, I have some crazy ass dreams. I actually had one last night that I’m thinking of making a series into. It would definetly be paranormal horror.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

I hate ending a book. Royal Lies I had to end in a cliffhanger since it was due in 6 hours on Amazon. I could of prolonged it but we had already done that once and I didn’t want to make anyone angry. The ending of it makes perfect sense when you start Royal Betrayal though.

What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?

I think book trailers are awesome. I wish I knew how to make them because I’d be sure to use them. As soon as I figure it out, you’ll all see them.

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

I’d have to say my best accomplishment would be saving my son’s life when he was barely 2 mos. old. I had just given him a bottle and burped him then laid him down to change his diaper. He started turning blue and wasn’t breathing. I kept my cool and sucked the mucus out of his mouth with mine and spit it on the floor. I kept it up while giving him infant CPR. Somewhere in there I managed to call my brother-in-law who was on the EMS squad in our small town. He was there in less than 5 minutes. He said if it wasn’t for my quick thinking our son wouldn’t of made it. My son has had breathing problems ever since that day. To this day they are not sure what caused it.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

Meeting everyone at book signings and on Facebook. I love my readers and appreciate them supporting me. It’s so nice to hear that someone loves the words you write. It’s so totally worth it then.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’d love to see myself staying at home writing but I’m highly doubting it…lol. I’ll still be writing and working at the factory.

Have you always liked to write?

I’ve been writing poems and songs since 3rd grade. My teachers told me I should send them in to a publishing company but never did. Now I just have to find the time.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Be yourself. Write what is in your head, no matter if you think no one will want to read it. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and grow into a better writer. And definetly don’t listen to the people who tell you you can’t because if you believe in yourself, you can accomplish anything.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

I would definetly go back to the hunting tv shows I was once on. My family hunts and fishes strictly for the meat. We do not buy meat from a store or a package. It all comes from the woods or the rivers and it’s delish. Deer meat has almost no fat so you have to watch when you cook it or it will burn. Mostly it’s prescribed to people with heart disease due to the low fat content.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?

I read all of my reviews. There is something to learn from everyone of them. If someone didn’t like my book, then that’s their opinion. I won’t take it personally because everyone has their favorite genre and authors. I’m just glad they picked my book to read.

What is your least favorite part of the writing / publishing process?

Formatting because I don’t know how to do it but I will be taking classes so I can do it for myself. I hate that Amazon has the power to remove reviews of they deem them not worthy or a friend of yours. I would certainly hope that if my readers are willing to take the time and leave a review, it should be cemented either good or bad.

What are you working on now?

Howl for Me, the shifter Menage A Trois.

Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?

She sat absolutely still, allowing her eyes to adjust to the low light. She blinked and found herself staring into his glowing amber-colored eyes. He was simply standing there eyeing her back, stark naked, with a wicked grin on his face.

Why did you choose to write in your genre?

If you write in more than one, how do you balance them? I chose erotica because I am a very sensual person. All my books are paranormal or historical right now and all contain erotic sex. I don’t think I could write a book without descriptive sex scenes at all. That’s just not me.

Where did your love of books come from?

I have been reading books since I can remember. The best thing about them is, you can put yourself in the characters shoes and live inside the books you are reading. I’ve gotten so deep into a book that I’ve called into work sick still reading or on release day.

Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?

Pepper Winters is my all time pre-order, can’t wait to get my eyes on, call inyo work author. She is extremely nice and her books bring you into the pages themselves. Her series Tears of Tess and The Indebted are must reads if you are into a bit of darkness. Love you Pepper!!

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

Elle of The Royals is my favorite. I see a lot of myself in her. She’s cunning, not afraid to get her hands dirty, and extremely sexy. She pulls herself through all the struggles she faces and puts behind the lies and betrayals in her life. I’m not going to spoil any more…lol.

Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?

Amazon is where you can find my ebooks and buy paperbacks. If you go to my author page, you can find the next book signings I will be at or you can order signed paperbacks from me at the link below. I always send free swag and extra love to those who order direct from me. I have copies of Royal Lies signed by cover model Robert Kelly right now.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Depends on how my day went before I start writing. I listen to Marilyn Manson and a group called Pagans (techno rock) when I write so I’m normally talking into my headset faster than the program I use will type for me. I’ve found that I can’t sing or answer my family when I’m writing since I forget to turn it off. I’ve caught replies to them when I’ve gone back and read what I have written already.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

My son’s friends. I get absolutely no writing done when they are here playing Call of Duty or messing around.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I try to be original as possible even though my series right now is based on history. The rest has all been what I’ve dreamed up or what R. L Weeks and I have written together. I’m not against giving my readers what they want though. If they want me to write a certain kind of book, I would see that as a challenge accepted.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I’m friends with so many other authors that is hate to leave out any of their names. They have all welcomed me with open arms and they are always there when I need them. The author community is awesome. I’m a member of the Erotic Author’s Guild. Dylan Cross and Tara Dawn have been a lifesaver. All the members of the guild help one another. We are a close knit family.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Probably FML. I say it all the time at work, especially on Fridays since we seem to have a bit of a run going on with last minute quality issues at 2:30pm and I normally leave at 3:30pm. Life’s been dealing me a crappy hand lately but I haven’t folded yet. Most of you know about my father’s condition and it brings me to my knees every day. I gotta stop before I start bawling.

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?

Have you actually performed any of the kinky sex scenes you write about? Hell yes! How do you think I know about them..lol
