MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR EMERY LEEANN❤️
What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?
Emery LeeAnn. Hmmm…I consider myself a multi genre author but I tend to lean more towards darker themes, whether it be dark romance, or horror.
Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
My last release, The Lost Souls of Brunswick, was a companion novel to Lyssa’s Destruction, Book 1 of The VooDoo Lily Series. I actually was asked by readers to write that book about some of the residents in the asylum that Lyssa was in.
How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?
I love dark reads. Always have. The of course, life experiences helped shape the author I became.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
I was able to shadow at a mental health facility, to do research. I also took college courses on abnormal psychology.
Can you tell me about your Series?
This series is unique as in, you can, and will be able to read each story as a stand-alone. VooDoo Lily is actually an Elite BDSM club, and throughout the series, as new books come out, there will be different characters that intermix.
Do you have a favorite book out of this series?
Lol! I’m not sure I can say which. They each took a little piece of me with them.
Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?
Lyssa’s Destruction came from true life experiences of women I helped counsel and some of my own tucked in.
What kind of research did you do for this book?
This was a compilation of 2 years of counseling battered women and personal life experiences.
Was it always meant to become a series?
Yes! I have Book 2, coming out early next year and plans for at least 3 more!
What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
I work a full-time job at so I don’t get a lot of writing time like most authors, I wish I had a daily goal! Lol. I am off 3 days a week, so I plan my writing on those days!
Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?
Yes! I have an MC book, Depraved Retribution, coming out. Super excited about this one! Also, I will be releasing a book of short dark twisted stories on December 27th.
How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?
No special meanings, but I have to have names or I can’t start a project. Lol.
Where do your ideas come from?
Mostly just dreams, or I see a picture that inspires me, or just good old fashioned life.
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Definitely finding the time!
What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?
Love them! Wish I was talented enough to create them! Elizabeth Cash was kind enough to create one for me for Lyssa’s Destruction
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
Being a mother
What’s the best thing about being an author?
The readers. I have met so many amazing new people!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hm. That honestly is a great question. I hope to still be writing but it is always just as humbling to have already been given this opportunity to share my written word.
Have you always liked to write?
Yes! Since grade school!
What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Never stop writing! We all have a voice, and I admire the hell out of anyone who is brave enough to share their thoughts.
If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?
What I am doing now! I work for a hospital. I love helping people.
Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad?
How do you deal with the bad? I do read my reviews. I try to comment, sometimes time gets away from me. I do always comment on the negative reviews, I thank them for their honesty. The thing is, everyone will not like what you write, as much as you would like them too. I am thankful for the chance to prove myself, and I hope in the end, I find some who enjoy my thoughts.
What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?
Editing! Hands down! Lol
What are you working on now?
A MC novel, Depraved Retribution (Dragons of Death MC Series)
Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?
“You walk into a den of Dragons baby girl, you are bound to get burnt” The Dragon MC, Known by reputation as the Dragons of Death, want revenge. One of their own has been slaughtered, and blood must be met with blood. Devon has to decide where his true loyalties lie – with the club he is President of and his MC brothers, or the woman he has vowed to protect.
Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?
I like to think my mind is multi-faceted. I juggle every genre, just do not produce as quickly as some, but I have many good things coming!
Where did your love of books come from?
I grew up reading. Other girls played with dolls, I read books.
Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?
Too many! Seriously I couldn’t name just one. I grew up on Stephen King and adored all of his twisted imagination.
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?
I would have to say Lyssa, she has been with me the longest, and then there is Paully, whose parents raised him like a primate. He is close to my heart. 😊
Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?
Amazon and Goodreads!
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Depends on the day. Lol
What is your writing Kryptonite?
Trying to write around my work schedule, and chronic migraines.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I am about as original as they come. Lol. I do not try to fit in any box.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Omg! There are so many! The support of the Indie Author Community is amazing.
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
Run while you can? Lol! Welcome To The Insanity!
