What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

Sue Harmeling, and I consider them Paranormal, Fantasy with YA Associations – more along the lines of NA though.

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

I had always been fascinated with angels and demons, and started to really dive into research on them when I was in High School. I got the idea and started writing ever since. I scrapped it multiple times, revisited it, and now here we are!

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi,children’s books, etc.)?

I just love using my imagination and I feel like these genre’s really allow that to thrive.

What kind of research did you do for this book?

Extensive demon, angel, and Fallen research. I had to research VT and other supernatural beings (vampires, shifters, wiccans).

Can you tell me about your Series?

The series follows Andrina Chalfon. She is best known as a Guardian (which is an angel, human or other supernatural being offspring). They are dying out and there is a prophecy that indicates she may be the one that can save them all and the world. She has to find out about the Guaridans blood line along with fighting demons. That is the extreme watered down version.

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

Book II and Book III (you will find out why).

Was it always meant to become a series?

Absolutely, actually it was meant to be five parts.

What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?

I go in at seven (an hour early) to write for an hour, then I write at lunch, and for an hour after work hours. I usually aim to complete a chapter a day.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?

I am involved with a few anthologies alongside this series. The first is Demons of the Abyss where Fimbulvetr will make an appearance. The second is a part of the Bennett Witch Chronicles where Something Wicked will make an appearance. The third is a Military Romance, and the fourth is the Forbes Files following Caroline Forbes, both for next year. I also am working on a new series called The Water as well.

How important are character names to you in your books? Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

All of the names are significant and have meaning. I did significant research on their names and how they should be names and why. Nothing is coincidental.

Where do your ideas come from?

I really don’t know lol I think of them, write them down, then make a story from them.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

The writers block. I get it at least once a week where I want to be lazy lol

What do you think of book trailers? Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?

I love them, I think they are so neat. I haven’t had one for my books yet.

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

Finally, sitting down and finish what I started with writing. The publishing was an added sweetener.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

Having your work out in the world and seeing others opinions on it. Good or bad I am open to all!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I really want to be as big as JK, but who doesn’t want to be anymore lol I would love for this series to be picked up for a TV Series or a Movie.

Have you always liked to write?

For as long as I remember I was writing. I would always get pens/pencils and notebooks for gifts from family members.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Never give up, and don’t stop writing. Write every single day.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

Photography. I love pictures too.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)? Do you respond to them, good or bad? How do you deal with the bad?

I read them, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and sometimes my book may not be their cup of tea. I appreciate their opinion and take it was a grain of salt. At least they left a review!

What is your least favourite part of the writing / publishing process?

Editing. I absolutely hate it.

What are you working on now?

Finishing up the Bennett Witch Chronicles Something Wicked and The Guardians II: The War.

Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?

“Thine spirit be known.
Thine spirit be affright.
Thine spirit be a whisper hight.

The mark be thy compass.
The mark be thy spear.
The mark be thy fire to those that sneer.

Thine mark is thine spirit.
Thine spirit is thine mark.

Yclept, Good in thine wake…
Pythoness be esurient.
Wickedness malison thine inscribe.

Werewith, Good in thine mornin’ be dread.
Werewith, Good in thine mornin’ be dead….”
From the Bennett Witch Chronicles Something Wicked

Why did you choose to write in your genre? If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?

It is always entertaining and ever changing. I love being able to use my imagination to its fullest.

Where did your love of books come from?

My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Gardner, without her I probably wouldn’t be writing or like books.

Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?

I have a TON of favorites. My most famous are: JK Rowling, Kayla Howarth, Simone Elkeles. Up and coming: KL Roth, Rachel Renee, Laura Hawks. Just to name a few.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?

Don’t make me pick lol they know I am biased and will scold me. I have to say that Maura and Lillith are my top two. Maura has a very interesting back story, one that I feel is very original, and I plan on creating a series upon it in the future so don’t want to give too much away. Lillith is so bad that it is absolutely intoxicating to write. I plan on creating a book about her as well in the future.

Where can readers go to discover more about you and your books?

Amazon for now, we do have Barnes and Noble but it is on a order and pick up basis. You can keep track of what I am doing in my reader group or on my Facebook page.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Both. Sometimes if I write a lot it is exhausting, if I write a few chapters here and there it is energizing. Depends on the scenes I am writing too.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

Distractions lol hence why I write during the times that I do.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Original. If readers like it they like it. I am doing this mostly because I love it. I hope it rubs off on others for that reason, but I would rather be different than like everyone else. Being normal and the same is boring.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Since becoming an Author on Facebook I have had the chance to connect with and be integrated with many authors. Natalia Schellhaus, Britta Neal, Autumn Sand, Rachel Renee, MA Lee/Michelle Aureux (If I butchered your name I am so sorry), Reagan Hollow, etc…honestly, there is too many to mention.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

A lot of ups and downs. A lot of drama. And now a lot of success.

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?

What animal would you be and why? A fox because they are cunning and independent…and super cute.

Where can your fans find you and follow??

“The Fallen will bring forth countless armies and unleash them onto the Earth to wreak havoc. The world will feel their terror, and they will leave prints of their destruction in their wake, giving them more souls to bury…more souls to be lost to the damned and to join the next legion that follows.

The Guardians will succumb to the Fallen. The battle will change, in favor of the underworld. This change will cause unrest among the supernatural from across the globe.

The Earth will tremble.
Fire will scorch the land.
Seas will lurch.
The wind will plow destruction…”

Succumbing to her fate, Andrina Chalfon has taken on her role as a Guardian more seriously. With her loved ones becoming targeted by demons she has no choice but to stare her enemy in the eye for battle. Yet, that isn’t the only war that is raging on in the world. With the Callidora Coven being targeted, another coven threatens to control the Earth…but with darker intentions. Will Andrina be able to defeat not just her enemies, but the Callidora’s as well?

Continue Andrina Chalfon’s Journey in the second installment of The Guardian’s Series, The Guardians II: The War.
