What’s your name and what genre would you consider your books to be?

My pen name is Ardent Rose, but my friends call me Rose. I write in several genres but mostly romantic erotica.

Tell me about your book. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?

Wild Horses is a love story about a woman who finds herself on the side of the road with a flat in the middle of nowhere. Olivia is a city girl and before she can go toward town in her heels and dress her knight drives up in a truck. Garrett is a horse rancher who rescues her. They strike up a friendship which leads to much more.

I have a friend of mine loves horses and he encouraged me to write what he called ‘our story’. A pure work of fiction, I started out with Olivia and Garrett and horses and they wrote the rest. It only takes me the spark of a thought and I am off and writing. Usually all I need is an opening paragraph.

How did you get interested in writing this particular genre (historical novels, mysteries, sci-fi, children’s books, etc.)?

I have read hundreds of romance novels, not to mention I am a romantic at heart. I love happy endings and being able to show the growing love between characters.

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I researched horses and geography at first. I was having a tough time with locations, so I decided on making up my own and ran with it. Then I imagined the old west with modern amenities and Tomitown was born. Doesn’t hurt I am a huge western fan, I watch The Virginian nightly (crush on James Drury) and weekends are filled with John Wayne.

Can you tell me about your Series?

I am currently writing the sequel, titles Rope the Wind. In the first book, the villain threatened revenge. My readers are crying for more Olivia and Garrett, so I have brought back Sarah and Erik, who will be book three. These four characters will solve the problem of a contaminated water source and Phillip with exact revenge on Olivia for her betrayal. Garrett and Olivia will continue their Dom/sub relationship and wildfires will threaten the area and The Double T ranch, Garrett’s horse ranch. In the third book, I will explore more of Sarah and Erik’s relationship… TBA

Do you have a favorite book out of this series?

Not yet…lol

Where did you get the inspiration/idea for your series?

My readers want more, I looked at the story and saw the next book to be one of revenge and intrigue…

What kind of research did you do for this book?

I took a closer study of horses and poison and of course water contamination.

Was it always meant to become a series?

No, it started out to be a standalone.

What’s a typical working day like for you?

I try to tackle social media in the mornings. Afternoons are spent writing and some evenings as well. IF, I am not writing I try to read. Since joining Bella Tulip, I feel I should help my fellow authors by reading ARCs and writing reviews for them.

When and where do you write?

We live in a two-bedroom apartment and I am lucky to be able to have the second bedroom as my office. I just this last weekend reset my office. I have been recovering from foot surgery and my workspace had become a mess, for accommodating my needs. It is all organized and I have one side of the room with my writing desk and across the room is my swag/jewelry desk.

Do you set a daily writing goal?

I try to write at least 2500 words per day. Monday thru Friday I write and the weekends are for catching up on swag and my reading.

Do you have a new book in the making and if so, what’s the name of your upcoming book?

My next release from Smoke and Mirrors, INK is Ian’s Story: The Immortal Clan Keith It is a paranormal erotic story that started out on my WordPress Blog as The Tapestry. It is the story of an Immortal highlander, Ian Keith, and how he found his bonded mate. Along the way, we meet ogres and trolls and a powerful witch. This book is ready for pre-order and will be released on June 17th.

How important are character names to you in your books?

Extremely, I believe names help us with the vision of that character. Some names are funny- like Harry or George. Others show strength like Nick or Max or Ian. Women’s names evoke feelings as well, Patricia or Katherine I think well-bred or intelligent. You may hear Cami or Lily and think more delicate or petite female. Just my opinion, I don’t judge others by their names except in books. LOL

Is there a special meaning to any of the names?

Ian Keith was the name of the overseers of Dunnotar’s Castle in Scotland. I also try to match names with the origin of the area I am writing about. I keep a list names when I hear neat ones on television or see one. I use baby name sites to find meanings quite often.

Where do your ideas come from?

Lyrics of songs, photos, conversations with others, dreams. Places I would like to visit. Most of my writing to date has a special person attached to them.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Until recently, editing. Since I have had surgery, it is finding a routine and balancing between promotion and writing. I have a wonderful PA, Shanna Blanton and a street team Rose’s Petals that do a marvelous job of promoting me, but it still takes time to make teasers and do takeovers.

What do you think of book trailers?

I absolutely love book trailers, but I don’t have any. I am used to doing everything myself and yet to learn that trick.
Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your own book?

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

As an author writing the first book and self-publishing, that takes courage.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

To be the creator of your own stories, the world’s and characters are limitless. Stretching and challenging my mind to see things differently.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

As a best-selling author, of course.

Have you always liked to write?

Yes, language and English were my favorite subjects in school. The love for research and hearing your opinion heard has always been part of my life. Poetry has also been a catalyst in many things I have written over the years.

What writing advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Don’t stop writing and find an editor who will not only help you but will give you honest feedback on the do’s and don’ts of your work. We only learn by our mistakes if we know what they are.

If you didn’t like writing books, or weren’t any good at it, what would you like to do for a living?

Designing jewelry and crafts, my second love in my hobby world.

Do you read reviews of your book(s)?

Yes, I try to read them.

Do you respond to them, good or bad?

I have only responded to a few. I do try to share my gratitude by posting on Facebook, when available.

How do you deal with the bad?

Chalk it up as a critique and try not to take it personally. One time I asked a blog for a review, they gave me three stars and the remark referred to my work as not their kind of book, but if you like sex it is for you… That may have been the best review, but they knew what they were getting before I sent it out. Another time it was formatting errors. I re-edited it and resent it. It was a first effort book.

What are you working on now?

I am currently writing the sequel to Wild Horses, Rope the Wind.

Can you give us a few tasty morsels from your work-in-progress?

Excerpt from Rope the Wind …
Garrett stepped up behind Olivia and kissed her ear. “Ready to lead her out, babe?”
She took the reins and stepped slowly forward. Shimmer didn’t hesitate, followed her right into the trailer. Garrett secured her and took the moment to touch his woman. He pulled her into his arms and pressed his body into hers. “The sight of you with that pony makes me crave your touch.”
She nuzzled her nose into his beard. “Is that so, Bear?” He wiggled his hardness against her tummy for proof. “Then I will just have to ride her naked one day.”

Excerpt #2 from Rope the Wind
She grinned from his praise. “Take your place on the bed, face down for your training.” He experimented with various size butt plugs in preparation for anal sex. Olivia silently lay her torso on the bed and spread her feet wide. Garrett chose a medium size plug. He dripped lube all around her perfect flower, and rubbed before placing a finger inside. She gasped but didn’t move. “You may speak my love. Does it feel good?”
“Yes Master, exquisite.” She purred.
He bent down and kissed each cheek. He inserted the prepared plug. She whimpered momentarily. “Are you ok?”
“Fine Master, just adjusting.” Her shoulders relaxed, he knew she was ready for the next step. With both hands, he rubbed her ass cheeks and massaged them and just as suddenly smacked her and swiped down her slit. Her body jolted and she mewled with pleasure. “Again, please Master. I need more.”

Excerpt #3 from Rope the Wind

Garrett entered the living room, Olivia lay on the floor in front of the fire. “Hey darlin’ how was your day?” He drawled in his sweetest voice. He rounded the couch and slid down next to her. Olivia curled into his lap and kissed him.
“I saw something today that shook me, but how can it be?” Her voice sounded far away, but she couldn’t rid herself of the feeling she had seen Phillip in town.
Garrett wrapped his arms around her and stroked her hair. “What has you so upset?”
She recounted her afternoon with Peter and when he left what she thought she saw.
She lifted her head. “It was surreal like a dream. I tried to brush it off as excitement, but I don’t know.” Her body shivered. He poked the fire to make it spark, but he knew she wasn’t cold, just frightened.

Why did you choose to write in your genre?

If you write in more than one, how do you balance them?

Where did your love of books come from?

My mother has always read trashy romance novels, Harlequin Romance was the norm for her habit. My best friend in high school got me hooked on Phyllis Whitney.

Do you have any favorite authors or favorite books?

When I was growing up I read lots of YA romance. Then when I started reading again I began like many with The Hunger Games, then I went to FSOG and I confess I have read them 9x… But then I found the vampires, JR Ward, Lara Adrian, Gena Showalters, Kresley Cole. My love for highlanders comes from Karen Marie Moning.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favourite and why?

Stefan Calinescue from Romania with Love, I worked hard on that book. I researched Romania and Cluj-Napoca traditions and culture. I wanted this book to be perfect, a friend of mine is the sexy muse and he is Romanian and lives in Cluj.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

When I begin, I am energized, but by the time the day wears on I can tell when it’s time to refuel and rest my brain.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

Interruptions, until I became a published author, although I have been writing for two years, my time was not taken seriously. My time now is better respected.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Originality is what I strive for. I am always looking for a unique situation that maybe hasn’t been written to death about.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I cannot possibly list them all, but their love and encouragement means the world to me.
Raven Moon is a big fan, Angel Rose is another one. Patrick Khayler my strongest author supporter.
Reed James is truly a gift to me, he reads and reviews and is honest with me. Ashlee Shades, Emily Foxx, Nikki Belaire, Gabriella Messina, Amber Joi Scott, the list gets longer. I read their books and find myself setting higher goals, to just have my name mentioned in their presence. My greatest love is when an author, who I love, reads my work and loves it.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Lost in Translation

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview?

I was recently asked, paraphrasing of course, can you be a lady (southern belle) and write naughty stories?

How would you answer that question?

I believe with the right words and voice or tone in your writing it can be achieved. I am not aggressively suggestive, I use the romantic feelings to offset the action and yet the outcome is not vulgar or offensive.
